| The first weekend in Cuernavaca, Mexico |
[May. 23rd, 2010|08:56 pm] |
Saturday we all went to Tepoztlan. The climb up to the pyramid reminded me a lot of going to devils lake and climbing the trails there. I was the first of our group to the top and it was worth the trip to the top of the mountain to see the Pyramid. We had an amazing view of the city and the mountains surrounding us. I am still a shock at the atrocities the Spaniards committed in Mexico. Not only did they hurt the people of Mexico but they also destroyed a lot of the culture. The Pyramid was destroyed by the Spaniards and then they built a Church in the middle of the city. After climbing down the mountain, I got a chance to look around the town of Tepoztlan. They have a lot of shops and stand for tourist, Which is nice but also means every thing is priced for tourist. But I found the central market where the residents shop for food and necessities. There I saw my first animal head in front of stand. the head displayed what type of animal meat was being sold at the stand. this particular stand was selling lamb. I also bought a Mango on a stick for 50 cents. I could not pass up the chance to eat a mango on a stick, it was delicious. The whole experience of visiting a aztec ruin, going to the city market and eating a mango on a stick totally outweighed getting sunburned even after putting on sun block. Saturday night, the entire group from MATC went out for drinks. We started at a bar on el zocalo (the town-square). After 11PM, the group split up, Micheal, Karen, Ruben and I went to another bar that was having live music. The guitarist at the bar was amazing and we staid until the bar closed at 2PM. On our way home Ruben and Micheal wanted to get some food and on our way there was small restaurant still open. The guys got some tacos and said it was some of the best food they had all trip (could be because they were a little drunk). The workers at the restaurant were so nice to us I felt bad about not having more than a soda. While we were there the restaurant had on VH-1 on and we talked about all the music we liked from the 80's. By the time we got home it was almost 3AM. All together it was a very good day. Sunday, we went to Xochicalco. The Ruins were exactly how I had imagined Aztec ruins to look like. There was the Southern mexico style ball game court, The housing for the lower classes and a couple of smaller temples. On top of the mountain was the temples used for sacrifices, The housing for the upper classes, the cistern and storage for gain. I was amazed to learn that some of the building were multistory. After Xochicalco we stopped at a souvenir shop where I got a shirt and then we went to Los Limones for lunch. They had very little for vegetarians so I waited to eat until I got home to eat. The Restaurant was still a lot of fun. It had live music, but only a couple of people were dancing. The band played a Cumbia song that I liked to I asked Lisa, one of the girls in my group, to dance. We went out on the dance floor and everyone in the restaurant was watching but I had a lot of fun dancing. But the funny part was the next song after we danced, the dance floor was packed. I joked that they saw the gringos dance and wanted to show they could dance too. Shortly after the dance we got on the bus and headed home. When we got back I needed to get some toiletries, so some of us went to Issste (don't know why they need so many sss's in the name) which is the government grocery store. The security in the store where carrying shot guns and that was a little intimidating but the story is pretty nice. After searching the whole store for floss I gave up and walked by myself to The Mexican Wal-Mart called Mega. Mega has everything and caters to the more upscale clientele. I found what I wanted and grabbed a Ruta(bus) home. As soon as I got home we had Cena(dinner) and now I am writing this. My experiences in mexico have been wonderful and the days are just flying by. It's all going so fast. Although I miss some things at home, I love being here. |

| trip to cuernavace prelude |
[May. 17th, 2010|11:12 pm] |
So, here I am in Mexico. Me, my classmate, my professor and his family left for Chicago at 8am on 05/15/2010. We got to O'hare around 10:30 and hung around the airport until our plane left at 1pm for D.C., I sat next to a fellow Spanish student and talked to him most of the flight. He is an old history teacher going back to school to be and ESL instructor, he has also traveled most of Europe, so he had alot of good stories. When we landed in D.C. we had about five minutes to get to our connecting flight but we made it in time to board the plane. the trip to Mexico city went well. I was sitting next to this old spanish couple and because the lady needed more room than just one seat, I got bumped up to preferred coach. So i had lots of room to spread out and watch the movies they were showing, called extreme measures with brendan fraser and harrison ford. we got into the airport in Mexico city early but it took an hour and half to get through customs. A person from the school met up with us and showed us to the bus, and by the time we got to the school to meet our host families it was midnight. To get the the host families homes we got to ride in the back of a pickup truck with a car seat welded to the bed, which seams to be pretty common in mexico. When we got to our host families home we were hungry and tired. we were shown our room and feed arroz con queso then went to bed. I am running out of battery so I will write about sunday and monday tomorrow. |

| New job |
[Mar. 2nd, 2007|11:36 am] |
So I am feeling very ambivalent about my new job.
Pros: 1. I will be make a ton of money(at least in my eyes). which means i can pay people back and start saving for college which i am now 9 months behind schedule 2. I will get semi-truck experience which will help latter when i need to look for a new job. 3. Its the type of job i want, all i have to do is drive. no loading, no unloading just get in and go. 4. I will be home and able to sleep in my own bed every night.(big plus) 5. no weekend work...I will have weekends free.
Cons: 1. I will lose a lot of time with my SO which I already don't feel like we have enough as it is. (this is the biggest and the scariest con.) 2. I will have to give up almost all of my gaming. which is the only social I get other then spending time with my SO. I also love gaming and with miss it with a passion. 3. I have to not go on the trip this summer, that I was going to do with a close friend that I don't get to see much of, due to her living on the east coast. 4. I am scared that my world will fall off the map and all i will have is this stupid truck...oh the angst.
Well...If any one has any ideas of how to make the most of my time that i due have at home or any consoling words i would love to hear them. also if any one has been in a similar situation and is willing to share how they got through it i would be very interested in hearing about it. |
